About the event

About us

The University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre provides apprenticeship programmes focused on industry-based learning, alongside training in a real-world manufacturing environment to create the engineers of tomorrow. It combines classroom learning and shop floor industrial experience, while providing an earn-as-you learn framework - and provides pathways for new apprentices getting started, through to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses for those looking to upskill or reskill. The AMRC Training Centre works with more than 250 companies from a diverse range of sectors including McLaren Formula 1, Heineken, Boeing and ITM-Power, alongside smaller businesses like AESSEAL, Forgemasters and Tribosonics, that are the lifeblood of UK manufacturing. It is also part of the South Yorkshire Institute of Technology, a collaboration of educators and employers, backed by the Department for Education to deliver world-class higher technical education.

The Work-wise Foundation The Work-wise Foundation is an employer-led charity who support the development of young people so they have the knowledge, skills, aptitude and opportunities for employment within South Yorkshire and beyond. The Work-wise Foundation helps the private sector take the lead in preparing young people for employment and rewarding careers. We do this by establishing links, developing programmes on training and practical guidance, and connecting employers with their future employees.

How we will be involved with National Manufacturing Day:

The AMRC Training Centre facilitated by the Work-wise Foundation will be hosting 3 schools as part of a manufacturing roadshow. The Students will visit three local manufacturing companies then come to AMRC Training Centre for a range of STEM related activities as well as a presentation on the pathways into a career in manufacturing.
