Make UK has launched National Manufacturing Day 2023 which this year will take place on Thursday 28th September. It is a chance for UK manufacturers open up to their local communities, schools and colleges and give them a behind the scenes access to a sector of global importance that plays a pivotal role in the economic life of local communities across the UK. The day itself will be a national celebration of UK manufacturing and a chance to raise the profile of the sector.
Businesses will put on a variety of tours, demonstrations of what they do and give people the chance to talk to their apprentices and members of staff about the job opportunities on offer and what it is really like to work in modern manufacturing. The roles pay more than the national average and throughout someone’s career there are constant opportunities for training and retraining – so work never becomes dull.
Verity Davidge, Director of Policy Make UK said:
“We’re delighted to be running National Manufacturing Day again in 2023. By throwing their doors open to young people and communities, manufacturers have the opportunity to showcase exactly what a career in manufacturing looks like.
Modern manufacturing is a vibrant and exciting sector to work in, across a diverse range of sub sectors from food and drink to aerospace, defence, pharma and tech. Britain leads the way globally in terms of sustainable innovation as the world moves towards net zero, and the roles on offer are becoming increasingly tech based and ever changing. There is never a more exciting time to be entering into the industry and National Manufacturing Day is the perfect way to demonstrate it."
